Teej festival at a hotel in Sakchi. During the program a dance competition for women titled, Mrs. Sawan competition, and fancy dress competition for children was organized.
The winners of these competitions were honored with the citations and gifts. Mamata Gadodia, Payal Rustogi, Vinita Naredi jointly led the program. Shilpi Palasnia, Kavita Agarwal, Mamata Patwari, Sunita, Megha Singhania, Seema Agarwal, Puja Asari, Kavita Dhoot, Madhu Agarwal, Megha Agarwal were present on the occasion.
According to age-old tradition prevalent in the society, the married women observe fast and pray for their husbands’ long life and a happy married life, while the unmarried women fast and pray for suitable matches. Women celebrate the festival in high spirits singing songs and dancing in the premises of temples dedicated to lord Shiva.
The festival is believed to be based on mythology that goddess Parvati in the ancient time observed fast and prayed wishing to be the wife of Lord Shiva. Later her wish was granted and led a happy conjugal life.During this time-honored tradition, Nepali Hindu women fast for the whole day and night of ‘Teej’ even without drinking water.
