Health Minister Gagan Thapa during his inspection at Kanti Children's Hospital. Youth leader of Nepali Congress Gagan Thapa was born in 1977 in Solukhumbu. He is the son of Mahendra Kumar Thapa and Rameshwari Thapa. Educated from Kathmandu's Siddhartha Banasthali High School, Thapa holds a Master's Degree in Sociology. He is contesting from Kathmandu-4 in the CA Election 2013 representing Nepali Congress. He began his political career in 1990. He was the general secretary of the NC's student wing Nepal Student Union since 2003 till 2005. Known for his oratory skills, Thapa came into public attention with his aggressive speeches during the movement against the direct rule of the then King Gyanendra. He also criticizes his own party leaders. NC inducted Thapa to the CA in 2008 from PR system. He is currently a central member of the NC. Married to the daughter of NC leader Arjun Narsingh KC, Thapa has a daughter. Thapa has formed a group for agricultural activities and runs a meat shop in Kathmandu.
