After months of strained ties and an economic blockade at the borders, India and Nepal are attempting to normalise relations. The newly-elected Prime Minister Prachanda will be on a three-day visit to India from 15th September. Ahead of the visit, Nepalese Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat stressed that both sides need to introspect on their misunderstandings and resolve issues through diplomatic channels instead of indulging in public spats. He also dismissed speculations that Chinese President Xi Jinping had cancelled his Nepal tour as Prachanda heads to India. President Pranab Mukherjee will also head to Nepal in early November. The Minister spoke exclusively to India Today's Smita Sharma. Excerpts.
