Two sinkholes suddenly opened up on the road in Gairapatan, near Chipledhunga and Mahendrapul, in the tourist city of Pokhara in Kaski district on Sunday. Sinkholes are gradually growing as land around it caved in. A four-storey house adjacent to the road has been directly affected by the sinkholes that extended below its foundation.Sinkholes, however, have not caused any human casualty, according to the Kaski District Police Office. Shankar Parajuli, a local resident, suspected that rain water undermined the ground causing the sinkholes to form on the road that lacked proper drainage system.Locals are terrorised after seeing the growing sinkholes that are about 10 feet deep. The site is about 400 metres away from Chipledhunga and Mahendrapul.Land has caved in several locations in Malepatan, Nadipur, Nayabazaar, Bastolathar, Chipledhunga, Jarebar, Darbarthok and Nuwarthok of Kaski district in recent years.
